Minimum Qualifications

To maintain a district-sponsored medical and/or dental plan and receive the district contribution for medical insurance, Los Rios retirees must meet several criteria upon retirement. An employee must:

  • Be vested in either the California State Teachers System (STRS) or the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and be collecting retirement benefits from either STRS or PERS
  • Retire from STRS/PERS and the district
  • Be at least 55 years old

Employees are also eligible for the district’s retiree medical program if they are:

  • Between the ages of 50 and 55 at the time of retirement
  • Receiving disability income under the district’s disability income protection plan just prior to retirement
  • Meet the qualifying years of service

Qualifications by Bargaining Unit

The qualifying number of full-time years of service with Los Rios may differ based on bargaining unit and hire date. There are different eligibility requirements to maintain a district-sponsored health plan and to qualify for the district contribution toward your health plan.

LRCFT (Regular Faculty)

LRCFT members age 55 or older with the equivalent of ten years of full-time service with the district may continue a district-sponsored medical plan.

Requirements to Receive District Contribution and/or Participate in a Retiree Dental Plan

To qualify for the district contribution and or participate in a retiree dental plan, employees must meet the following criteria.
Date of Hire Qualifications
Before June 30, 1990 Age 55 and ten years of full-time service with the district
After June 30, 1990 Age 55 and 15 years of full-time service with the district

LRCFT (Adjunct Faculty)

Adjunct faculty are not eligible for the district contribution and are not eligible to continue a dental plan. However, adjunct faculty can choose to continue a district medical plan if they participated in a medical plan the last five years prior to retirement.


LRCEA

LRCEA members age 55 or older with the equivalent of ten years of full-time service with the district may continue a district-sponsored medical plan.

Requirements to Receive District Contribution and/or Participate in a Retiree Dental Plan

To qualify for the district contribution and or participate in a retiree dental plan, employees must meet the following criteria. Please note that full-time service means 40 hours per week, nine or more work months per year.
Date of Hire Qualifications
Between February 1, 1989 and June 30, 1990 Age 55 and seven years of full-time service with the district
Between June 30, 1990 and September 1, 1993 Age 55 and 12 years of full-time service with the district
After September 1, 1993 Age 55 and 15 years of full-time service with the district

LRSA

LRSA members age 55 or older must meet the following requirements to participate in a district medical/dental plan and to receive the district contribution.

Before June 30, 1990 Age 55 and ten years of full-time service with the district
After June 30, 1990 Age 55 and 15 years of full-time service with the district

SEIU

SEIU members age 55 and older with the equivalent of ten years of full-time service with the district may continue a district-sponsored medical plan.

Requirements to Receive District Contribution and/or Participate in a Retiree Dental Plan

To qualify for the district contribution and or participate in a retiree dental plan, employees must meet the following criteria.
Date of Hire Qualifications
Before June 30, 1990 Age 55 and seven years of full-time service with the district
After June 30, 1990 Age 55 and 15 years of full-time service with the district

Managers and Confidential

Managers and Confidential employees age 55 and older with ten years of full-time service with the district may continue a district-sponsored medical plan.

Requirements to Receive District Contribution and/or Participate in a Retiree Dental Plan

To qualify for the district contribution and or participate in a retiree dental plan, employees must meet the following criteria.
Date of Hire Qualifications
Before June 30, 1984 Age 55 and three years of full-time service with the district
Between July 1, 1984 and June 30, 1990 Age 55 and seven years of full-time service with the district
After June 30, 1990 Age 55 and ten years of full-time service with the district
After January 1, 2013 or hired into a Manager or Confidential position after January 1, 2013 Age 55 and 15 years of full-time service with the district
