Interest-Based Approach 3-Day Training

Overview

The Interest-Based Approach (IBA) is a communication and conflict resolution process that focuses on core interests rather than set positions and is part of the Los Rios Community College District's culture.

IBA values personal relationships over problems and seeks to generate creative solutions that meet common interests through consensus-based decisions. Los Rios promotes this interest-based approach as the preferred way to do business in the district. IBA is utilized for union negotiations, conflicts on campus, facilitating meetings, and more productive problem-solving with students, colleagues, and even family members.

IBA is an all-inclusive 3-day training at an off-site location that is provided free of charge to Los Rios employees. Priority is given to full-time employees although part-time faculty requests are considered on an individual basis. Training includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner and runs into the early evening – including IBA After Dark, a late night social on Thursday evening.

Training is held at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, 11211 Point East Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742. Hotel rooms may be requested.

New managers are required to complete IBA training. Faculty, classified staff, supervisors, and managers all benefit from learning this process to learn how to identify common core interests, to prepare for other key roles, and to get to know colleagues across the district on a first-name basis (no last names, job titles, or work locations are revealed).

Calendar

There is no IBA training scheduled during remote operations. This page will be updated with registration information and resources when training resumes.
